About Me

“The love of gardening is a seed once sown that never dies” – Gertrude Jekyll

My name is Jess Hadfield and I’ve been gardening for as long as I can remember. In fact my earliest memories were picking runner beans with my Mum and cooking my home made mud pies in the ‘oven’ I’d fashioned out of a dead gap in the privet hedge! It’s design…of a fashion…

My love of gardens started with my first home and the ramshackle plot we inherited, tackled and tamed. That ignited a passion that saw me leave my London office job and start work as a professional gardener for the National Trust at Ham House in London, where I was fortunate enough to work on the renovation of the beautiful 17th Century walled kitchen garden. I studied a number of City & Guild courses alongside that.

Garden Teaching & Design

Now, a move North and a few years later, I am studying again – this time at the KLC School of Garden Design. I’m also a member of the Society of Garden Designers.

My garden design and lessons, studies, family and dog keep me busy enough but I make sure there is always time to hide in my own garden, tending to my fruit and veg plot or the flower borders.

Just pottering and having fun.
