“Weeds are flowers too once you get to know them” – Eeyore
Gardening really isn’t that tricky, but if you’ve never really done it before it’s hard to know where to start. Some friendly, hands on, tuition in your own home can really help.
And if you’re already a dab hand with the lawn mower and hedge-trimmers but are keen to do more of the fun stuff, a few gardening lessons can give you lots more confidence.
What To Expect
Lessons are informal, practical and friendly and always tailored to what you would like to tackle. It’s always best to have a brief chat prior to the lesson to give me an understanding of what you want (feel free to email me a list) and I like to do a quick site visit to familiarise myself with your space.
The sessions are usually two hours long. We get out into your garden, get our hands dirty and you’ll learn as we go along.
Here are a few examples of the things people often ask for:
Beginners Basics
What to weed and how? Which tools to use? Identifying and improving your soil, mulching, composting and pruning.
Introduction to your own garden
Identifying your plants and how to care for them (this is especially popular for those people who’ve just moved into a new home).
Planting out
Preparing your soil, choosing the right plants and giving them a good start.
Splitting and Division
Or in other words, how to get new plants for free!
Basic Planting Design Techniques
Building up your garden and planting to encourage all year round interest
Something Tasty
Introducing fruit and vegetables
Fill Your Heart and home with flowers
Getting started in growing ‘cut flowers’ in your garden
Booking
Each 2 hour lesson is £80 and there’s no minimum number of sessions. It’s best to do it one to one so you get the most out of me but I’m happy if someone else wants to join you, share the costs and reap the benefits (if you’ll excuse the pun!).
